National Cheese Lover's Day

"How can you govern a country which has 246 varieties of cheese?" - Charles de Gaulle

It's National Cheese Lover's Day!

Cheese lover's love cheese for a reason.

One of those reasons - whether they realize it or not - is that cheese is addictive. No, really. Like, literally. Did you know there are traces of morphine in cow's milk? It's there because it has a calming effect on calves; it also helps them to bond with their mother. Dairy also contains something called caesin. Caesin, when digested by the body, releases opiates. And since cheese is a highly concentrated dairy product, guess what? You're getting even more than you would in milk.

Fun stuff to know even if you don't have a plant-based diet (seriously, you can thank me when you win your next trivia tournament because of this little gem)!

There are healthy and fun alternatives to real cheese, though.  Ones that won't leave you with withdrawals. And they're so super easy to make, I'm not sure why more people aren't doing so. You know what the secret is?  NUTS!  Blend nuts with liquids and spices until smooth and creamy and you've got a delicious and versatile spreadable cheese.

And now you're all the wiser, foodies.

Happy National Cheese Lover's Day!
