National Popcorn Day

"Of course life is bizarre, the more bizarre it gets, the more interesting it is. The only way to approach it is to make yourself some popcorn and enjoy the show." - Unknown

It's National Popcorn Day!

There are two shapes to popcorn flakes (what kernels are called when they're popped) - butterfly and mushroom. The first are the irregularly shaped ones that look a little like an octopus. The second are shaped like balls and are preferred by companies who make caramel (or other coated) popcorn.

Personally, I'm not a huge popcorn fan. The me who studied psychology in college believes that this is because of two reasons:

1. When I was on diet (obviously this was a long time ago: have you seen me eat? I know you have. It's not a pretty sight or a small endeavor anymore!) I used to eat a tremendous amount of popcorn, because an entire bag was less than two hundred calories. That's an awesome and plentiful snack when you're limiting your caloric intake.

2. My first serious boyfriend was the manager of a movie theater. He smelled like popcorn. I smelled like popcorn. All my friends smelled like popcorn. All we ate was popcorn. It was popcorn, popcorn, popcorn all the time.

So, to mix things up a bit, today I'll be indulging in a unique bag of "parmesan and olive oil" flavored popcorn. Despite my reservations, it was actually delicious (although it smelled a little like stuffing, to be honest).

Here's to diets, ex-boyfriends, movie theaters, special occasions, and thoughtful friends.

Happy National Popcorn Day!
