National California Strawberry Day

"Strawberries are the angels of the earth, innocent and sweet with green leafy wings reaching heavenward." - Terri Guillemets

It's National California Strawberry Day!

As a girl from New England I'm struggling to celebrate today's food holiday for several reasons:

1. I'm all about supporting my local economy. Purchasing food grown in California is the antithesis of that. My strawberries traveled from the complete opposite end of the country. Nothing about that is good.

2. Fresh strawberries aren't a March thing. They're a July thing in this region of the world. Segue . . .

3. It's eighty-something degrees outside (no, really). So it feels like July, not like March. So my gastronomical . . . clock?, I guess . . . is telling me to eat strawberries.

So I'mma eat me some (Californian) strawberries.

And try not to feel too guilty while doing it.

Happy National California Strawberry Day!
