National Cereal Day

“Like religion, politics, and family planning, cereal is not a topic to be brought up in public. It's too controversial.” - Erma Bombeck

It's National Cereal Day!

Sponsored byVermont Soy

I was excited that I could celebrate today's food holiday with fellow New Englander's Vermont Soy. I've seen both their soymilk and tofu at my local Whole Foods dozens of time, but have always passed them by for brands that I knew and had tried before.

After trying their soymilk today, though, I won't make the mistake of overlooking them again!

Vermont Soy's unsweetened soymilk tastes . . . like soymilk. Like fresh, genuine soymilk. I appreciate that there aren't any additional ingredients to mask the flavor: it's a soymilk that doesn't try to hide the fact that it's a soymilk or try to trick your taste buds into thinking otherwise either (which may actually intimidate or be off-putting to some who are used to a more manipulated soymilk taste.)

According to their website,Vermont Soy's soymilk is "minimally processed and gently pasteurized to deliver an authentic taste with full nutritional benefits. We are proud to offer you the power of organic soy protein in a creamy, nutritious, and delicious beverage. Not to be confused with boxed brands or other soy brands in the fridge that last for months, Vermont Soy's Fresh Soymilk has a 21 day shelf life. This is because we do not believe in Ultra High Temp Pasteurization (UHTP). UHTP destroys everything in the milk, the good and the bad!"

Sounds perfect to me.

Plus, how can you not love a company that's dedicated to their community? Vermont Soy sources all of their organic, non-GMO soybeans directly from Vermont farmers. "This helps to diversify farming revenues, it keeps Vermont's agricultural lands active and healthy, and it supports sustainable agriculture and local economies."

Still sounds perfect to me.

Happy National Cereal Day!
