National Amaretto Day

"Stay busy, get plenty of exercise, and don't drink too much. Then again, don't drink too little." - Herman "Jackrabbit" Smith-Johannsen

It's National Amaretto Day!

I can honestly say that I haven't had an amaretto sour since I was twenty-one or so. It was my go-to drink when I was out with friends. Which I guess is unique, since apparently it isn't something most young drinker's request. Of course, this drink didn't last that long once I met Jack Daniel's (and Jack is not an easy man to love; eventually we had to part ways - he pursued heartier country-western rock star types I'm sure, while I was so ruined by our tumultuous affair that I took a break altogether from alcohol - an eighteen month one that eventually segued into the wine romance I'm currently having).

Ordering an amaretto sour tonight felt funny. Like my age, worries, and responsibilities should have been far less than they actually were. Like I should've been all dolled up with my college friends at a bar playing pool poorly while recklessly flirting with boys who I wouldn't remember the name of years later. Like it was an entire different life ago.

(Somewhere Jack Daniel's was pursing his lips and shaking his head in disgust saying, "That ain't the girl I used to love.")

But a dear friend who accompanied me tonight told me that she didn't think it was a "girly drink" at all (well, minus the fact that the restaurant we were at threw cherries in it). She thought it was very old; very "Mad Men-esque."

And that made me feel like a total winner.

(So, suck on that, JD.)

((No, I didn't mean it, love ... maybe we can meet up some time soon? Reminisce? How does August 29th sound? I hear it's National Whiskey Sour Day. And there's no other boy I'd rather spend it with then you, No. 7!))

Happy National Amaretto Day!
