National Raspberry Tart Day

"Your best shot at happiness, self-worth and personal satisfaction - the things that constitute real success - is not in earning as much as you can but in performing as well as you can something that you consider worthwhile." - William Raspberry

It's National Raspberry Tart Day!

Tart: a small, sweet pie that has no top and is usually decorated with fresh fruit.

Some other interesting related-to-today info: the Brits exported red raspberries to the states in the 18th century. Black raspberries, on the other hand, are actually indigenous to our continent; they were domesticated sometime in the 19th century.

And some more: tarts themselves date back to the Middle Ages and consisted of an open-topped pastry originally filled with meat. Later on, they would be made with something sweet, like fruits or custards.

And now you're all the wiser, foodies.

Happy National Raspberry Tart Day!
