National Cheesecake Day

"Because you don't live near a bakery doesn't mean you have to go without cheesecake." - Hedy Lamarr

It's National Cheesecake Day!

In the U.S. there are really two types of cheesecakes most people choose between: New York style (heavy and rich) or Philadelphia style (generally creamier and lighter, topped with fruit or sauces). Stateside, I've never really understood the fascination with cheesecake. Unless its flavored or dripping with oozy chocolate and caramel, I'm not all that impressed. Bland wedges of it topped with cherry or strawberry pie filling has especially always been a turn off. Abroad though? One of my absolute favorite desserts whilst living in England was honeycomb cheesecake. I alternated between ordering that and sticky toffee pudding whenever I went out for a meal.

Tonight's lemon, poppyseed, and kiwi cheesecake wasn't quite as epic, but lovely (especially in this heat) anyway.

Happy National Cheesecake Day!
