National Milk Chocolate With Almonds Day

"There’s more to life than chocolate, but not right now." - Anonymous

It's National Milk Chocolate With Almonds Day!

Today is one of those very specific food holidays that as no real origin. My guess is that it was created by a chocoholic who also had a serious love for almonds. Maybe s/he was the only one in his neighborhood who thought the two flavors went-together-like-whoa (like deep fried and pickles do), and after countless hours standing on the corner in his Milk Chocolate and Almond Stand (I dunno about you, but on a hot summer day, why would one want refreshing lemonade when they could have milk chocolate that's been sitting out in the sun all day?) offering samples to all the passerbys, the candy eventually caught on.

Whatever the real story is, it's probably a lot more boring than mine!

The creation of milk chocolate itself is credited to Daniel Peter, a man who worked for the Nestle Company in Switzerland. He called his formula "Gala"... the Greek term for "from the milk."

And now you're all the wiser, foodies.

Happy National Milk Chocolate With Almonds Day!
