National Banana Lover's Day

"In France, cooking is a serious art form and a national sport" - Julia Child

It's National Banana Lover's Day!

Sponsored byArtisana

"Can I have one?" a tourist asked me as I sat on a bench in the park near my office making (what appeared to be) peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

"Um... no. They're for my boyfriend," I remarked, defensively putting a hand over the sandwiches in fear that he might help himself.

"Is your boyfriend Elvis or something?" He asked sarcastically before storming off angry - I guess? - that I hadn't given him my lunch.

My boyfriend is not Elvis.

And it wasn't peanut butter on my sandwiches, either.

It was Artisana's Walnut Butter on one sandwich and Pecan Butter on the other. I had never tried anything but almond butter before, so I was thrilled I got the chance to experiment with other nuts. I don't know what I was expecting - something more "watered" down tasting maybe - but both the walnut and pecan butters were just awesome. Creamy, dense, and flavorful the walnut tasted like walnuts, the pecan tasted like pecans. I don't even really like pecans, but with a smashed banana on multigrain bread? It was one of the most satiating things I've ever eaten as a vegetarian (yep, I said "ever"). I haven't felt this content after a meal in years.

I can't believe I get to celebrate National Macadamia Nut Day with them now! *swoon*

According to Artisana's website, "creating unique  delicious, healthy, gourmet food is a work of passion for us, blending together nuts and seeds like the vibrant colors of an artist's palette. Handmade with care, our organic foods are crafted using a temperature controlled process that preserves the life-essential fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, and enzymes."
