National Cherry Turnover Day

"Happiness is a bowl of cherries and a book of poetry under a shade tree." - Terri Guillemets

It's National Cherry Turnover Day!

If you been following this food adventure (read with movie narrator voice: "one girl... takes on...a calendar of foods...as she attempts... to EAT... THE... YEAR!") then you know that we've become quite familiar with both turnovers (National Apple Turnover Day was celebrated July 5th) and cherries (so far, there's been a National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day, a National Cherry Popsicle Day, and in September we celebrate National Cherries Jubilee Day).

In case you need a quick refresher, though...

1. Turnovers are a light, airy puff pastry filled with something lovely like lemon curd, apples, or even something savory like "chick'n and cheeze". These are not popovers, which are more like a dense, quick bread.

2. Cherries have high levels of antioxidants and are excellent sources of naturally occurring melatonin. Traverse City, Michigan claims to be the "Cherry Capital of the World." They have a National Cherry Festival and make the world's largest cherry pie.

How will you celebrate today?

Happy National Cherry Turnover Day!
