National Chocolate Chip Day

"Chocolate is a perfect food, as wholesome as it is delicious, a beneficent restorer of exhausted power. It is the best friend of those engaged in literary pursuits." - Baron Justus von Liebig

It's National Chocolate Chip Day!

Sponsored byLiz Lovely

I know that eating chocolate chip cookie dough is bad. Not only is salmonella a reality of raw dough... the idea of breaking an egg into my mouth and eating it is revolting - which is kinda what eating unbaked cookie dough is like.

So - if one LOVES cookie dough, but doesn't want food poisoning or to harm animals in the process, what do they do?

Eat Liz Lovely's Cowgirl Cookies.

According to the lovely Liz Lovely, "Cowgirl Cookies are dedicated to your inner cookie dough thief. Sure, we bake ‘em, just not very much. And since they’re egg-free, there’s no danger. Well, except for eating way too many! These Cowgirls deserve only the finest all natural ingredients. Handmade by me and my favorite cowgirl in Vermont’s Green Mountains, we like to think that we’re Baking a Difference!"

Yes, they are.

Today was interesting as we took Almanac of Eats on the road (as opposed to it dragging us wherever it wants!). It was the first of four stopovers for the Gentleman of the Road tour. I had purchased tickets ages ago. While I'm a fan of Mumford and Sons (the band behind this epic all-day music festival on the Eastern Promenande of Portland, ME), I am an even bigger fan of doing things I've never done before.

We got to the venue ridiculously early(ier than we needed to be there we would find out in the end) and quickly made friends with a mom and her thirteen year old who had driven up from New Jersey.

After a few hours of talking, I offered them one of my Liz Lovely Chocolate Chip Cookies. "I'll be honest... I'm not really into vegan food," the mom said wrinkling her nose. "I promise you this doesn't taste AT ALL vegan. It literally tastes like cookie dough."

One bite in and she was a believer. "I can't believe how much this tastes like the stuff my mom used to make with me when I was a kid! It's so rich!"

And THAT, kids, is how you bring people to the dark herbivore side of life.

Happy National Chocolate Chip Day!
