National Eat Outside Day

“Too many of us take great pains with what we ingest through our mouths, and far less with what we partake of through our ears and eyes.” - Brandon Sanderson

It's National Eat Outside Day!

A few months ago, Earnest Eats sent me some of their granola planks and bars to celebrate National Eat Outside Day with. And so I waited. And I waited. And the end of August seemed to never come, and these really delicious looking squares of wholesome love taunted me. Especially the three planks - "Maple Almond Crunch," "Blueberry Vanilla Crackle," and "Pomegranate Walnut Crisp" - which sounded and looked like the most perfect combination of flavors ever. I actually had day dreams about crumbling them up into some Greek yogurt. It's all I thought about. So, I hid them from my view (which isn't hard when you're 5'2" - I just put them on the top shelf where I couldn't see them anymore!). But, alas, "out of sight, out of mind" did not work. And I waited.

Finally, it's August 31st and I get to try these Earnest Eats planks!

They are everything I wanted them to be. The flavors are EXACTLY as advertised (love when that happens), and I think it's very clever that Earnest Eats put the words crunch, crackle, and crisp in the title of the three "planks" - because that's exactly what they do in your mouth. The idea behind putting granola in a cluster like this is awesome, because it allows me - the eater - to break up as much or as little as I want in my yogurt, and to save the rest (if there is any) in a compact little square that I can slip in my pocket for later.

Earnest Eats believes in common sense. According to their website, they're "inspired by the flavorful simplicity of whole grains, hearty nuts and seeds, and the natural sweetness of fruit. Our snacks are minimally processed, free of preservatives and artificial ingredients, made in small batches and baked in real baking trays! We use only premium, all-natural, whole food ingredients to give you an anytime snack you can feel good about."

And I do.

Happy National Eat Outside Day!
