National Cheese Pizza Day

"Cold beer and pizza are spiritual." - Betsy CaƱas Garmon

It's National Cheese Pizza Day!

Today may have been the food holiday I was most looking forward to. Cheese pizza? CHEESE PIZZA?!?! What's there not to love? Seriously... it's like the world's most perfect food. And according to our government, it's a vegetable too, making it a healthy and necessary part of my diet.

Before you take that first bite of delicious 'za, chew on this: supposedly, 350 slices of pizza are consumed every second; over 90% of United Statesians eat at lease one pizza a month; and, the world's largest pizza, made in Norwood, South Africa on December 8th, 2010, weighed 26,883 pounds.

And I thought today's slice from a local Italian grocer was huge (seriously, it was the same dimensions as a dictionary... and I chowed that baby down in a matter of minutes. Something is seriously wrong with me. I think I was supposed to have been born a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, but was born a human girl instead. Mega sigh.).

These slabs are no joke, though. People wait in line upwards to an hour for a slice of this perfectly doughy masterpiece with it's sweet tomato sauce, thick savory cheese, and just the right amount of spices.

Whether you made it yourself from scratch, defrosted a frozen one (ain't nothin' wrong with that), or sat back and relaxed while someone made one for you, I hope you had a very merry...

Happy National Cheese Pizza Day!
