National Macadamia Nut Day

“Worldly riches are like nuts; many a tooth is broke in cracking them, but never is the stomach filled with eating them.” – Rabbi Nachman of Breslov

It's National Macadamia Nut Day!

Sponsored byArtisana

I love macadamia nuts. They might be my favorite nut, but because they're so expensive I rarely treat myself (although, the first vegan nut cheeze I made was with macadamia nuts and it was one of the finest things I've ever indulged on!). I love the way they're salty, creamy, and melt-in-your-mouth while not having that same grainy texture other nuts do.

Artisana - my new found go-to for all things nuts - actually makes a macadamia nut butter made from... yep, you guessed it, real macadamias (along with cashews it's the only ingredients they use in it - how's that for authentic?). It's fair in color, and smells like most nut butters do, but it's glorious tasting. On the Artisana site they suggest blending their macadamia nut butter with red peppers and tossing it with pasta. I don't know why, but this flavor combination stuck with me. It seemed so odd, but so specific that you know someone in the Artisana family actually eats it. So, I tried a variation on the theme and spread a little of the macadamia nut butter on a dense cracker, topped it with some roasted red pepper spread... and it was a totally awesome, totally unique flavor explosion. I was so hesitant at first, but the macadamia nut butter was so subtle and creamy that it complimented the cold, bold spread perfectly. I actually wiped the nut butter packaging cleaning, because I wanted more.

Why else do I love Artisana? Because they believe in sustainable living; minimizing our collective impact on the Earth; and through our community, supporting the organic and living foods movements, the Earth and her forests.

Music to my ears and a happy tummy? It doesn't get any better!

Happy National Macadamia Nut Day!
