National Pecan Cookie Day

It's National Pecan Cookie Day!

Ah, the pecan. Whomever thought to put these nuts in dessert products was one smart cookie. Current research shows that pecans are incredibly healthy, as they're a great source of protein and antioxidants. They also may also lower cholesterol and blood pressure!

That's pretty good stuff. So is Sahale Snacks. Started by old firends Edmond Sanctis and Josh Schroeter in August 2003 on a hike up Mt. Rainier, the ultimate goal for the company was to provide healthy and "extraordinarily great tasting food that could travel anywhere." And they're definitely doing that!

Sahale Snacks makes a couple different "nut blends," which are non-traditional takes on certain flavors associated with nuts. The Valdosta - pecans with sweet cranberries, black pepper, orange zest - for example "evokes the classic taste of the American South.” I know I was a little concerned with this combination of tastes, but it actually works out incredibly well. In a way it almost reignites the flavor of the humble, buttery pecan.

Happy National Pecan Cookie Day!
