National Caramel Custard Day

It's National Caramel Custard Day!

In my opinion, it's safe to assume that most people think of flan when they hear "caramel custard." I know I do.

While caramel custard is similar to crème brûlée  (a dessert that has a couple national food holidays of its own), it's not the same. Crème brûlée has that crunchier, caramelized sugar top while caramel custard, or crème caramel, is an egg-based custard that's covered in a soft caramel sauce.
