National Frappe Day

"Why does man kill? He kills for food. And not only food: frequently there must be a beverage." - Woody Allen

It's National Frappe Day!

"Salted caramel mocha frappuccino with soy, an extra shot, no whip, no toppings," I rattled off, hearing the person behind me call me a "high maintenance customer" after having just complimented me for my extensive tattoo sleeve. I just know what I want, and to celebrate frappe day this was exactly it.

In parts of my neck of the woods, frappes (pronounced "frahp") are what we call milkshakes, except in Rhode Island where they're called "cabinets." Frappé with accent come from the International Trade Fair in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1957 where they were created accidentally. To enjoy one, combine instant coffee, water, and sugar and shake vigorously to create a thick foam. Serve over ice with more water and milk if desired.

Στην Υγεια σου!
("To your health!")

Happy National Frappe Day!
