National Oatmeal Day

"You have to eat oatmeal or you'll dry up. Anybody knows that." - Kay Thompson

It's National Oatmeal Day!

Sponsored byBob's Red Mill

Because I got chicken pox at such an old age (I was almost fifteen; it was traumatic), I have really bad memories of oatmeal baths and lotions. As a result, I went quite a few years before eating the stuff again.

When Bob's Red Mill jumped on this journey to eat the year, I asked that one of the days they sponsor was Oatmeal Day because I wasn't to fall in love with the stuff again. After all, if anyone knows oats, it's Bob's Red Mill. Founder Bob Moore, after reading a book about old stone-grinding flour mills, found a useable mill - which are much less common than high-speed steel roller mills - and started making stone ground flours and cereals for local customers.

To this day, it's a name synonymous with trust, honesty and integrity. According to their website, "By producing the very best in whole grain foods, we're able to fulfill our commitment to help look after more and more people through better nutrition."

I wanted to celebrate today a little differently then just tossing a package of oatmeal and some hot water into a bowl. A friend recently asked me if I had ever tried baked oatmeal. I had not, but it sounded like a really freakin' good time.

Happy National Oatmeal Day!
