National Brandy Alexander Day

"He's my Brandy Alexander, always gets me into trouble, but that's another matter. Brandy Alexander." - Feist

It's National Brandy Alexander Day!

Even before I heard the Feist song, I always thought that "Brandy Alexander" sounded like the name of a boy you might fall too fast, too hard for. You would love every second of the time you spent with him regardless if you were fighting or making up, knowing your relationship probably wasn't going anywhere. And years later, after he had come and gone, whenever his name was said a smirk would play at your lips as you recalled those frozen moments in time.

The cocktail originates from an earlier gin-based version known as just an “Alexander.” Supposedly, it was recreated in 1922 at the wedding of Princess Mary and Viscount Lascelles in London; although others believe it’s actually named after the Russian tsar, Alexander II.

Personally, I still think it was named after a boy with dark chocolate brown eyes and a devilish grin.

Happy National Brandy Alexander Day!
