National Dinner Party Day

"At a dinner party one should eat wisely but not too well, and talk well but not too wisely." - W. Somerset Maugham

It's National Dinner Party Day!

The concept of getting together with people to eat is nothing new. If anything, it's probably one of the oldest acts of community there is (though it probably wasn't considered a "party" originally... I think it was more a "necessity"!). Dinner parties are great for people who love food, love eating, love cooking, love drinking, love to socialize, but don't necessary love to do all of those things out at a restaurant where many, many factors can't be controlled - like atmosphere, other dinner guests, price, food, etc. Dinner parties have a more intimate, cozy feel - and the best part? Every detail is entirely up to you. Want it to be themed? Or more of a potluck? Or be outside in the garden? While organizing something like this might seem stressful to some, others they thrive on small event planning like this!

So... if you could you host a dinner party for any four people from history, who would it include (oh, c'mon, I know you've heard this question before!) and why?

(And, hey, if it's really flippin' cold where you live, and you don't have the will or want to throw a shingdig right now, it's totally okay to just meet up at a restaurant too because it's still eating dinner in a "party". Remember: food holidays are about celebration, not perfection!)

Happy National Dinner Party Day!
