National Glazed Donut Day

“Those of us who have been up all night were in no mood for coffee and donuts. We wanted strong drink." - Hunter S. Thompson

It's National Glazed Donut Day!
(Please note: I don't know if this is actually a "real" food holiday, but I'm celebrating it anyway!)

I think Homer Simpson would be incredibly proud of Amur-KAH. We have multiple doughnut-themed food holidays throughout the year, including National Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day on June 8th, National Cream-Filled Doughnut Day on September 14th, and National Doughnut Appreciation Day on November 5th. Collectively, our country is a big fan of these little "olykoeks" (which Washington Irving explained as "balls of sweetened dough, fried in hog's fat, and called doughnuts" in his 1809 History of New York). Frost 'em, glaze 'em, fill 'em with cream or jam, or coat 'em with sprinkles, coconut, or butter crunch and we will eat them!

Today was an easy option for me: a locally made donut smothered in maple glaze with a side of fresh strawberries and a cup of coffee? Absolutely divine.

After all, isn't that how a doughnut food holiday should be?

Happy National Glazed Donut Day!
