National Bubble Gum Day

“I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor, I was back to pondering my mortality.” - Mitch Hedberg

It's Bubble Gum Day!
(Please note: this is a floating food holiday. It occurs on the first Friday of February each year.)

Bubble Gum Day was started in 2006 by children's book author Ruth Spiro. The concept is simple: everyone who donates 50¢ (or more, obviously) is allowed to chew gum at school - which, as we all know, is usually a major no-no. The proceeds go to the charity of the school's choice. It's a fun and interactive way for students to raise money that doesn't involve selling something (and now, even libraries and businesses get involved, too!). I'm a HUGE fan of this, and encourage you to consider participating at your school or workplace in the years to come!

When it comes to bubble gum, my favorite in the world is cinnamon-flavored B-Fresh. I discovered it in 2009, and while it's a bit pricey and tends to lose its flavor a little faster than other gums, I LOVE the natural cinnamon taste, the consistency (because it doesn't seem as gooey as other organic gums do), and I appreciate that it's totally vegan, kosher, gluten free, soy free, and diabetic safe, too. And, as a matter of fact, I don't even chew gum unless there's B-Fresh in my house! And my favorite time to chew it is when I'm working out - specifically jogging around my neighborhood with my purple weights (which has been nearly impossible to do this winter; I've still been able to find the opportunity here and there, though it's been slippery!).

Happy Bubble Gum Day!
