National Chocolate Cake Day

“How can a society that exists on instant mashed potatoes, packaged cake mixes, frozen dinners, and instant cameras teach patience to its young?” - Paul Sweeney

It's National Chocolate Cake Day!

Some say National Chocolate Cake Day is January 27th. Others say it's February 27th. My thoughts? WHY NOT CELEBRATE IT ON BOTH DAYS?! After all, a little extra chocolate cake never hurt anybody! Besides, it's so dreary out these days I think we could all use a little pick-me-up, and I don't know about you but chocolate cake just does the trick.

If you're looking for a middle ground between making a cake from scratch today and buying a slice at the grocer, there's no shame in using a boxed mix. Did you know that O. Duff and Sons are credited with creating the first boxed mix cake in the 1920s? And then twenty-seven years later, General Mills came out with the first "just add water" Betty Crocker cake mixes in white, yellow, ginger, and spice flavored In 1948, Pillsbury jumped on board with this revolutionary way to bake, and produced the first chocolate cake mix.

And now you're all the wiser, foodies.

How will you celebrate today? I made a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting... and ate some for breakfast (which is seriously the best thing about being an adult!).

Happy National Chocolate Cake Day!
