National Corndog Day

It's National Corndog Day!
(Please note: this is a floating food holiday. It occurs on first Saturday of NCAA Men's Division 1 Basketball Tournament each March.)

Today is one of the more legit food holidays we celebrate each year. The concept of National Corndog Day originated in 1992 by Brady Sahnow and Henry Otley of Corvallis, Oregon who loved corndogs and basketball (the combination makes sense to me!). As the years went by, it became a feast of sorts also featuring tater tots and beer. Now, National Corndog Day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament - when 32 teams play, and you can watch ball for close to ten hours straight (which I used to do when I was a teenager and obsessed with sports!). For more information, check out the National Corndog Day website!

And now you're all the wiser, foodies.

I tried some vegetarian corn dogs today that I smothered in Coleman's mustard (talk about clear sinuses!). I was turned off at how hot doggy the "meat" tasted, but was pleasantly surprised at the sweetness of the coating. I think my meal would have been complete with some tater tots and PBR, though!

Happy National Corn Dog Day
