National Fruit Compote Day

"Love is a fruit in season at all times, and within reach of every hand." - Mother Teresa

It's National Fruit Compote Day!

No, you're not taking your wasted food and coffee grinds outside to decompose so it eventually can be recycled as a plant fertilizer. Today is all about compote (based on the French word for "mixture"), not compost as similar as they sound. But what is compote? Basically, it's fruit stewed in sugar and water (sometimes spices, vanilla, nuts, or liquors like brandy or rum are added, too) that's believed to have been created by the French sometime in the 17th century. It can be eaten warm or cold, as is, scooped over ice cream, on biscuits with either honey or sour cream, or any other way that makes you happy!

For me, that's on bread...blood orange compote and vegan butter on grilled multigrain toast with a cuppa? Every morning should start this blissfully!

Happy National Fruit Compote Day!
