National Pack Your Lunch Day

“It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like 'What about lunch?'” - Winnie the Pooh

It's National Pack Your Lunch Day!

Whether you're doing it to save time, for economical reasons, or simply to have some control over what's going into your body (which is especially helpful if you're on a or have a specific diet) packing a lunch to ______________ (fill in the blank with school, work, etc. here) may be something you do every day, but today we actually celebrate the act!

What fond memories of packed school lunches do you have? Did you have a brown paper bag or an actual tin, plastic, or sweet L.L. Bean material lunch box? What did your mom or dad routinely pack for you? One of my favorite memories was when I was in kindergarten/first grade and had a pretty sweet retainer. Alright, it wasn't exactly the trendiest thing to rock, but I'm glad my parents decided to take care of my adorably crooked teeth earlier in life that way I didn't have to have full-on braces during high school (which is already an awkward enough time in life). My mom would make me sandwiches that she would cut up into tiny, bite-sized pieces so that I could eat them with a fork since I couldn't bite into anything whilst wearing said retainer (like I said, as a seven year old this isn't that embarrassing, any later in life and it could have!).

Instead of sporting the pb&j or eggsalad, why not pack yogurt and granola, a Nutella and banana sandwich, a lemon hummus sandwich on whole grain bread with avocado and tomato, leftover pizza or pasta, a cold bagel with cream cheese and strawberry jam, empanadas or calzones... be creative!

Happy National Pack Your Lunch Day!
