National Blueberry Cheesecake Day

“Have blueberries whenever you are low – destiny will change and you will be high." - Adam Voichester

It's National Blueberry Cheesecake Day!

We're a country that loves cheesecake. Just think about all the food holidays dedicated to it: National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day in March, National Cherry Cheesecake Day in April, National Cheesecake Day in July, and National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day in October.

The concept of cheesecake originated in ancient Greece where it was served to Olympic athletes in 776 BC because they believed it provided energy. I can see myself eating a giant wedge for the same reason before an alcohol promotion, but the idea of eating it before or after a physical work out (especially running) doesn't entirely appeal to me. Then again, their version was a lot different than what we've (Statesians, that is) come to identify as cheesecake; back then it was most likely made from a combination of cheese, honey, and flour as stated in the oldest surviving cheesecake recipe by a Greek man named Athenaeus.

Today cheesecake comes in all kinds of styles, cheeses, and flavors - so let your imagination run free. I celebrated today with lighter, fluffier blueberry and chocolate cheesecake. And it was divine!

Happy National Blueberry Cheesecake Day!
