National Pizza Party Day

"You better cut the pizza in four pieces, because I'm not hungry enough to eat six." - Yogi Berra

It's National Pizza Party Day!
(Please note: this is a floating food holiday. It occurs on the third Friday of May each year.)

In my hometown (and in other cities nearby) there's a local chain called Sam's Italian. I think it's important - for you to fully understand and appreciate them - that you take a look at a couple of their commercials...

Awesome, right? Growing up, I always had my birthday parties at Sam's. Seriously, look at this seven-year old mug (yes, that's me wearing the retainer and giving the peace sign):

Do you know why I always had my birthday parties there? Because pizza is amazing (Sam's pizza was by no means exceptional, but it had a distinct style unlike any other pizza I've ever had. And because of that, it will always taste a little like "home" to me. Besides - bad pizza is better than good most everything else. AMIRIGHT?).

Pizza has almost always been one of my top five favorite foods so I'm delighted any chance I get to eat it... which - with or without a food holiday - is a lot, I'll be honest. I like the versatility of it. I like that it's a "comfort food" regardless of where you are in the world (the very first thing I ate in England was a margarita pizza and a glass of sparkling water). And I like that with it, for me, comes a lifetime of memories associated with it.

- Pizza Hut first appeared in the 1930s.
- Supposedly the five most popular nights to eat pizza are the New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Super Bowl, Halloween, and Thanksgiving Eve.
- Iceland grows it's pizza veggie toppings in greenhouses.
- 93% of Amur-KAH'ns eat pizza once a month.
- Gennaro Lombardi of New York City opened the first pizzeria in 1895.

Dig in and have a...

Happy National Pizza Party Day!
