National Crème Brûlée Day

“It's the finale. It's the last impression. A bad dessert can ruin the meal.” - Anne McManus

It's National Crème Brûlée Day!

Since there's some serious debate on the interwebz as to whether Crème Brûlée Day is on July 21st or July 27th, I decided to write a haiku:

It's Crème Brûlée Day
Burnt sugar crust tastes so good
Let's celebrate twice!

Crème brûlée is a custard that's topped with sugar (white or brown) and caramelized by being placed under a broiler, or if you're feeling super daring, with a (kitchen) torch. While that might be the most fun for the folks making the dessert, for the folks eating it the best part is definitely cracking the top open with the back of a spoon.

(UPDATE: Hi, it's Steff from the future [August to be exact] and I just got back from San Francisco. I walked around the financial district a lot and guess what seemed to be incredibly popular? Crème brûlée! HOW RANDOM IS THAT?! I saw at least two sidewalk food carts within three blocks of each other selling the stuff!)

Happy National Crème Brûlée Day!
