National Sidewalk Egg Frying Day

“We can see a thousand miracles around us every day. What is more supernatural than an egg yolk turning into a chicken?" - S. Parkes Cadman

It's National Sidewalk Egg Frying Day!

I think this sums up today, don't you?:

In all seriousness, the phrase, “it’s so hot outside that you could fry an egg on the sidewalk”, might be a tad misleading. Despite the fact that it feels like you're walking on hot coals or molten lava (for those of you that like to go barefoot in the summer, you'll know exactly what I mean), the pavement in most places in the U.S. doesn't usually reach a temperature hot enough to "fry" an egg. That doesn't stop people from trying though. Today in Oatman, AZ, for example, is the annual July 4th (Solar) Sidewalk Egg Frying Contest which is held at high noon (no, seriously).

Happy National Sidewalk Egg Frying Day!
