National Strawberry Sundae Day

"You know, all that really matters is that the people you love are happy and healthy. Everything else is just sprinkles on the sundae." - Paul Walker

It's National Strawberry Sundae Day!

Did you miss National Strawberry Parfait Day or National Sundae Day? No worries! Today (sort of) combines the two! And it's appropriately placed in the calendar year considering for most of the U.S. it's now sweltering outside. I don't know about you, but when it gets this hot I don't really feel like eating anything but ice cream and strawberries! So yeah, let's put 'em together!

Strawberries are one of the most beloved fruits in the world, and it's not just because of they're shaped like a heart and are bright red. This low calorie fruit, which is a member of the rose family, is chock full of vitamin C, antioxidants, fiber, and potassium. Throughout history they've been revered as a aphrodisiac and as a symbol of both peace and righteousness. There's even the Musée de la Fraise (The Strawberry Museum) in Belgium!

And what about sundaes? They're the other half of this lovely food marriage, after all! There's varying stories as to how the sundae came to be. Some say that it was a way for pharmacists to keep serving ice cream after a law was passed that prohibited the sale of ice cream sodas on Sundays. Others give the credit to drugstore owner Chester Platt.

Regardless, today is the perfect day to fall in love... with a strawberry sundae that is!

Happy National Strawberry Sundae Day!
