National Cabernet Day

“I've dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas; they've gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the colour of my mind.” - Emily Bronte

It's National Cabernet Day!
(Please note: this is a floating food holiday. It usually occurs on the Thursday before Labor Day each year.)

Or at least I think it is. A quick digression on the placement of these fun days, yeah?

Some food/drink holidays, like National Cabernet Day, seem to have a questionable date. This happens when a holiday is first started and it isn't clearly defined as to when the exact date is. If something lands on August 30th, for example (as NCD did in 2012), is it always August 30th... or is it really the last Thursday in August?... or is it the Thursday before Labor Day? If you do some research - and do some logical reasoning - you'll see that it's the last option as NCD was celebrated on September 1st in 2011 and August 29th in 2013.

Stay informed so you don't miss celebrating such wonderful days like this!

I'm a Cab girl. Have been for years. I will choose a bad Cabernet Sauvignon over a good anything else (except maybe Malbec which I'm beginning to appreciate more) most of the time. They are always so lush, full-bodied, slightly fruity, slightly spicy, and compliment everything in my world. Did you know, though, that Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the world's most popular drinking and growing red wine grape varietals, was initially created in the 1600's by crossing Sauvignon Blanc with Cabernet Franc. The word sauvignon comes from the French word "savage" which refers to the grape being a wild and native plant of the country.

And now you're all the wiser, winos foodies!

Happy National Cabernet Day!
