National Grab Some Nuts Day

"Worldly riches are like nuts; many a tooth is broke in cracking them, but never is the stomach filled with eating them." - Rabbi Nachman

National Grab Some Nuts Day!

Today could be about any number of things, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with those delicious bite-sized superfoods that we already celebrate multiple times throughout the year. Nuts are, botanically speaking, fruits that are made up of a hard shell with a seed inside. Some examples of this include hazelnuts, chestnuts, and acorns. All of those other "nuts" - almonds, cashews, macadamias, walnuts, pecans, pistachios - are technically in the "drupe" family like cherries and plums are. Drupes are fruits where a fleshy part surrounds a shell/pit that contains a seed inside. And, finally, remember that peanuts are in a class of their own, as they're considered legumes.
