National Cherry Popover Day

“One must ask children and birds how cherries and strawberries taste." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

It's National Cherry Popover Day!

Cherries are a great source of antioxidants, have anti-inflammatory properties, contain high levels of vitamins A, C E, and potassium, and are also an excellent natural source of melatonin (seriously - try drinking a glass of the stuff before bed sometime).

Is all that still true if you bake them inside a doughy batter then slather them with butter, though? Popover's, which are similar to Yorkshire Puddings, are muffin-esque but much more airy inside and less dense, while crisp with a "fried dough" feel on the outside. Even if they aren't that familiar of a food in real life, they are quite a popular food holiday as we celebrate two other versions of the day throughout the year.

And now you're all the wiser, foodies!

Happy National Cherry Popover Day!
