National Snack a Pickle Day

"On a hot day in Virginia, I know nothing more comforting than a fine spiced pickle, brought up trout-like from the sparkling depths of the aromatic jar below the stairs of Aunt Sally's cellar." - Thomas Jefferson

It's National Snack a Pickle Day!

Feeling a bit peckish? Why not tuck into a pickle today? After all, they're a low-cal and super flavorful food. You've got loads of options, too! Here are just a few options:

Dill - Dill pickles are made with dill oil or the herb itself. They have a refreshing, less pungent taste then...

Kosher Dill - Kosher dill pickles are made with lots of garlic in the brine.

Gherkins - My preferred pickle! Gherkins aren't just smaller, (usually) more sweet pickles, they're actually made from entirely different cucumbers (Burr or West Indian) than other pickles are.

Sour - Sour pickles are fermented longer in the brine making them more sour than other pickles.

Polish - Polish pickles fall somewhere between kosher dill and sour pickles.

Sweet - Sweet pickles are usually made with vinegar, spices, and sugar.

Bread & Butter - Bread and butter pickles are pickled (sometimes cut into a waffle-esque shape) with both onions and bell peppers to achieve a sweet and tangy flavor. Part of the "sweet" family of pickles.

So what will you snack on today?

Happy National Snack a Pickle Day!
