World Chocolate Day

"Chocolate is the first luxury. It has so many things wrapped up in it: Deliciusness in the moment, childhood memories, and that grin-inducing feeling of getting a reward for being good." - Mariska Hargitay

It's World Chocolate Day!

Today isn't recognized by the National Confectioners Association like other chocolate and candy holidays are (some other websites even claim "World Chocolate Day" might be on September 23rd), so I'm not entirely sure how "legit" this is. But chocolate is one of my favorite flavors so it seems like none of us really have a problem indulging!

Throughout our adventure in eating the year we've learned a lot about chocolate. It melts at the same temperature the average human body runs at, dark chocolate has antioxidants in it making it good for you (in moderation), chocolate contains both phenylethylamine which releases "pleasure" sensations and endorphins which release a euphoric feeling, the Aztecs used it as a form of currency, white chocolate doesn't actually contain any cocoa solids, and there's a life size moose made entirely of chocolate in Scarborough, ME.

Is there anything chocolate can't do?

Happy World Chocolate Day!
