National Pretzel Day

"These pretzels are making me thirsty." - Seinfeld

It's National Pretzel Day!

Or is it?

Most foodies celebrate National Pretzel Day in April. There are a few, though, that claim there's a second one held in October. Since pretzels are an easy item to eat, I have no problem paying homage to them twice a year (even if this date is a little less legitimate than the April date is).

Did you know that pretzels were most likely first created by a monk in the 600's? He created, what he called, pretiolas and gave them out as rewards to children who learned their prayers. Pretzels have a distinguishable cross in the center of them, and it's believed that it represents arms praying (while the three holes in a pretzel may portray the Holy Trinity - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost).

And now you're all the wiser, foodies!

Happy National Pretzel Day!
