National Homemade Bread Day

“The smell of good bread baking, like the sound of lightly flowing water, is indescribable in its evocation of innocence and delight." - MFK Fisher

It's National Homemade Bread Day!

Very few things delight my palate like warm homemade bread fresh from the oven spread with butter (especially when it's banana!). It's very soothing to my soul and in a bizarre way makes me feel connected to the hundreds of generations that came before me that have been doing the same thing for centuries. After all, bread is one of the very first foods prehistoric man ate after crawling out of the sludge (if you believe that sort of thing). Some years later, in the mid-1980's, the first bread machine was released in Japan. Probably a tad easier to use then smashing grains, mixing them with water, and "baking" them under the sun on hot rocks, yeah?

Do you have a favorite homemade bread? Potato? Rye? Beer? Naan? Focaccia? Pumpkin chocolate chip?

Did I hear you say, "all of them"? You're my kinda carboholic!

Happy National Homemade Bread Day!
