National Men Make Dinner Day

"Strange to see how a good dinner and feasting reconciles everybody." - Samuel Pepys

It's National Men Make Dinner Day!
(Please note: this is a floating food holiday. It occurs on the first Thursday of November each year.)

While I'm not entirely into gender stereotypes, today's food holiday is mildly entertaining (especially since - as a food blogger - I do all the cooking all the time).

According to the official Men Make Dinner Day website, today was meant for guys who usually help around the house with chores, love their significant other, have a sense of humor, are generally considered all-around good blokes, but... never really learned how to cook (and may be a little intimidated by it).

The rules are simple: the man must agree to participate without bartering for anything in return, he must do the shopping for the meal himself, it must involve more than four ingredients, the dinner must be made from a recipe he found himself, and he must clean-up everything afterwards. For the entire list of rules, check out the MMD website.

I informed The Photographer back on July 24th that he had t-minus three months to come up with something for me today. He was given gentle reminders every few weeks, too. Here's what he came up with:

A BLT with  macaroni and cheese!

He came up with the menu (and recipe) himself. He went shopping for the ingredients. His entire meal included eight ingredients. He served me. He cleaned up. And I didn't have to do a single thing along the way to help him. Y'know what?

A girl could get used to this!

Happy National Men Make Dinner Day!
