National Apple Pie Day

"Good apple pies are a considerable part of our domestic happiness." - Jane Austen

It's National Apple Pie Day!

Did you know the early versions of apple pie - which probably originated in England - did not contain sugar (it wasn't widely available, so it cost too much)? The pastry part was referred to as the "cofyn" and saffron was used for a little color. Check out this entirely difficult to read, albeit it super fun look into an old school recipe:

I celebrated today with a quarter of an apple-cranberry pie.

No, really.

If you're gonna celebrate, celebrate. Go big or go home, right?

Happy National Apple Pie Day!
