National Chocolate Day

“Momma always said life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get." - Forrest Gump

It's National Chocolate Day!

Wasn't yesterday National Chocolate Day? Is this one of those food holidays where some bloggers believe it's one date, while others report something else?

No, according to the National Confectioners Association website - although it looks like a typo - December 28th is National Chocolate Day, and December 29th is National Chocolate Day, too.

And why not? It's the end of the year and for many a "last hurrah" before regimented New Year's resolutions, it's Winter so there's not much to do but eat and sleep, and it's post-holidays so chances are there are loads of leftover chocolaty goods to be eaten. So yeah, let's have back-to-back National Chocolate Days!

Did you know chocolate contains no caffeine and doesn't actually cause acne either (sorry you've gotten such a bad rep, Mr. C!). On the opposite hand, chocolate does contain theobromine - which alters our serotonin levels (the neurotransmitters that makes us feel happy and less anxious) - and contains heart healthy antioxidants in the dark varieties.

So... it's kind of like a health (physical and mental) food!

Kind of.

Happy National Chocolate Day!
