National Noodle Ring Day

“Oh, look, it’s Mr. Noodle’s brother, Mr. Noodle." - Elmo

It's National Noodle Ring Day!

It sounds like today is secretly trying to celebrate SpaghettiOs without stating a specific brand. After all, they're the first thing I think of when I hear the phrase "noodle ring."

But today is about an actual dish made from, yes, noodles along with cheese, milk or cream, eggs, and seasoning of some kind (like Worcestershire sauce). The concoction/casserole is then pressed into a ring mold and baked until golden brown and crispy on the edges. It's served as is or with the hole in the center filled with creamed chicken or vegetables.

Sound appetizing? Some folks thought so as it was quite the popular dish back in the day (and loved enough to have its own food holiday, obviously).

But if you want to celebrate today with a can of those trusted rings of noodles swimming in ketchup-y tomato sauce, that's fine, too (remember, the point is just to celebrate)!

Happy National Noodle Ring Day!
