National Sacher Torte Day

“I only used it once, and that was to take a torte out of the oven.” - Manny (about his baseball glove), “Modern Family”

It's National Sacher Torte Day!

While we've experienced other torte days, today takes the cake (see what I did there?). The sacher torte is usually credited to a young man by the name of Franz Sacher in the 1830's. He created it for the Prince of Austria who requested a different kind of dessert. Sacher produced a chocolate cake with a layer of apricot jam, the whole thing covered in chocolate icing.

History was made.

A torte - which is German for "cake" - is usually more rich and dense then a typical cake. Now, let me tell you, it is in your best interest today to not Google images of "sacher torte" if you're hungry. You will only be torturing yourself by looking at those pictures of velvety, sinfully chocolate slices of torte. Sometimes food porn is seriously NSFYW... that's "not safe for your waistline"!

Happy National Sacher Torte Day!
